Here's my Wish List for the new Millennium I want to be here alive healthy active independent Not buried Not in a rest home No wheelchair or cane No senior citizen's center Not treated like a child by twits one third my age No implants attached to those who'd frame me No compulsory chapel No means test or age test No drugs or programs I want to be here and see it all See worlds of Star Trek and Star Wars I want to live in the kind of town with the kind of spouse Straight only, of course and local Who won't try to sell me a behavior problem Buying into what mean people say No more assault by unwanted unworthy suitors I want freedom from commitment inpatient or out Commit those who frame me instead Keep them off my back I want to shop in stores I'm not framed out of I want a free Mumia and a free Leonard Peltier And others like them it's not too late for I want to help worthy causes I'm interested in I want fun things around I want to pick my night or day Freebies a bus ride away Safe ride home I want to stare fascinated at History and classics and gothic cultural diversity I want to do my share to revive traditional Bluegrass and folk music full-time radio formats I work to make it happen Not just wish for it and trust in God for it I do what provides for me financially and otherwise I do what keeps me safe warm fed healthy I vote stuff envelopes register voters I sign the right petitions I work in polling places I march in streets pass out flyers write letters and essays Mobilize like-minded people I do it the old-fashioned way I want it all From UNVIRTUAL MILENNIUM Published in San Jose City College magazine Infusion fall 2002
